Why I Built CostNest
Most calculator websites use US or UK rates. Try an electricity calculator online β it asks for a flat $/kWh rate. BPDB doesn't work that way. Bangladesh has 6 different tariff slabs, a meter rent, and the rate depends entirely on how many units you've used that month.
The same gap exists for income tax (NBR has a specific rebate system most calculators miss completely), land area (Katha means something different in Dhaka vs Sylhet), and construction costs (BNBC-adjusted rates with local labour and material pricing). I built CostNest to solve these specific problems for Bangladesh.
Update Policy
When official rates change β new Finance Act, BPDB revision, any official update β changes go live within 72 hours. I verify the source document directly, not secondary sources.
Privacy β Your Data Stays With You
All calculations happen in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to any server. Your salary figure, loan amount, BMI inputs β none of it leaves your device. Close the tab, it's gone.
There are no accounts, no signup required, and no tracking of what you calculate.
Official Sources Used
Every calculator uses official sources only. The source and last-verified date are shown on each tool. Nothing is estimated from secondary sources.

Subject Expertise
Each category on CostNest is built around a specific domain. Here is what goes into each area and where the underlying knowledge comes from.
Finance & Taxation
NBR income tax slabs, BPDB electricity billing, VAT at 15%, EMI amortisation β all verified against official gazette notifications and Finance Act amendments.
Construction & Engineering
Building cost estimates use BNBC-aligned material rates and Dhaka labour pricing. Concrete, steel, tile and brick calculators follow standard civil engineering formulas.
RMG / Garment Industry
Garment costing, CM rates, FOB pricing, and fabric consumption tools are built around BGMEA and BTMA industry standards used by merchandisers and production managers across Bangladesh.
Health & Fitness
BMI, BMR, TDEE and body composition tools use peer-reviewed formulas β MifflinβSt Jeor (1990), US Navy tape method (Hodgdon & Beckett 1984), WHO classifications. Results are educational references, not medical advice.

I work in web development and have spent years dealing with the same problem: the calculators available online use US or UK defaults that simply do not apply in Bangladesh. BPDB billing, NBR tax brackets, Katha land measurements, RMG costing norms β these need their own tools built from the ground up. CostNest is my attempt to fix that gap properly, with transparent formulas and sources anyone can verify.
