Transport costs in Bangladesh vary widely depending on mode, distance and passenger count. Current Bangladesh fuel prices: Octane 130/L, Petrol 125/L, Diesel 109/L, CNG 43/m3 BDT (verify current BERC prices before use).
For city transport, CNG auto-rickshaw typically costs 2–3 BDT per km on metered fare. AC bus costs roughly 1.5–2.5 BDT per km. Private car costs 6–10 BDT per km including fuel, maintenance and depreciation.
For intercity travel, the national railway offers lower per-km costs than bus or private car on major routes (Dhaka–Chittagong, Dhaka–Sylhet, Dhaka–Rajshahi).
As of early 2026, approximate prices are: Octane 130/L, Petrol 125/L, Diesel 109/L, CNG 43/m3 BDT. Always verify the current BERC prices before calculating.
A typical sedan gets 12–16 km/litre on highways and 8–12 km/litre in city traffic. CNG-converted cars get roughly 18–22 km/m3 of CNG.
Total trip cost = fuel cost + toll + driver cost + misc. Divide by number of passengers for per-person cost. Our trip calculator handles all these inputs.
Train is usually cheaper per km on major routes. Dhaka–Chittagong by train (Intercity) costs roughly 350–700 BDT depending on class, vs 600–900 BDT by AC bus.
Fill up, reset odometer. Drive until nearly empty. Fill again and note litres used. Mileage = total km ÷ litres used.
