Bangladesh Grading System Explained

Bangladesh uses two main grading scales: the 5.00 scale for SSC and HSC exams, and the 4.00 scale for university education. At the SSC/HSC level, the highest grade is A+ = 5.00 (80–100% marks). The minimum pass mark is 33% (Grade D = 1.00).

At the university level, most public and private universities use the 4.00 scale. A CGPA of 3.00+ is generally required for First Class. For university admission, DU and BUET require specific GPA minimums in SSC and HSC combined — a combined GPA of 9.00 (SSC + HSC on 5.00 scale) is typically the minimum for competitive programmes.
