Calendar rules are based on their respective civil and astronomical definitions. The Bangla calendar conforms to the official standard in Bangladesh. Hijri dates are based on standard mathematical tabular civil rules. Other calendars follow standard Unicode CLDR definitions.
Human civilizations have developed different ways to track time. Solar calendars (like the Gregorian, Persian, Thai, and Indian Saka calendars) follow the Earth's orbit around the Sun. Lunar calendars (like the Hijri calendar) align strictly with the moon phases, causing months to cycle through seasons. Lunisolar calendars (like the Chinese and Hebrew calendars) combine both cycles, adding extra leap months (intercalary months) periodically to keep aligned with solar seasons.

The tool converts Gregorian dates to the official Bangla calendar of Bangladesh, which was reformed by the Bangla Academy in 2019. In this system, the first six months (Boishakh to Ashwin) are exactly 31 days, and the last six months are 30 days, except Falgun which has 29 days (or 30 days in a leap year). Poyela Boishakh (New Year) is fixed to April 14 in the Gregorian calendar.
The Hijri calendar is calculated using the standard mathematical tabular civil calendar. Because actual Islamic months depend on the sighting of the new crescent moon, the calculated date may differ by 1 to 2 days from local sightings in some countries like Bangladesh or India. It is recommended to verify with local Islamic authorities for official religious observations.
The Persian calendar, also known as the Jalali or Solar Hijri calendar, is the official calendar of Iran and Afghanistan. It is a solar calendar that begins on the vernal equinox (Nowruz, usually March 20 or 21). It is one of the most accurate calendars in existence, using a complex cycle of leap years.
The Chinese Lunar calendar is a lunisolar calendar. The cycle year is represented by the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (Ganzhi), which repeat in a 60-year cycle. For example, 2026 is the year of the Fire Horse ('bing-wu').
The Indian National Calendar (Saka calendar) is the official civil calendar of India, adopted in 1957. It begins on the vernal equinox (March 22, or March 21 in leap years) and is dated from the Saka Era (78 CE). The first month is Chaitra.
The tool leverages standard web standards (JavaScript's Intl.DateTimeFormat API) to perform high-precision, client-side conversions for Hebrew, Chinese, Indian Saka, Thai Solar (Buddhist), and Japanese Imperial calendars. This ensures the conversion is extremely fast, private, and works offline.
