Percentage to GPA Converter

Convert exam percentage to GPA for SSC/HSC (5.00 scale) and Bangladesh university (4.00 scale) — full grade table, letter grade, class designation, and highlighted result band.

Step By Step

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select your grading scale: SSC/HSC (5.00) for secondary or higher secondary results, or University (4.00) for undergraduate/postgraduate.
  2. Enter your exam percentage (0–100) in the input field.
  3. The converter instantly shows your letter grade, GPA, and the exact percentage range that band covers.
  4. Use the full grade table below the result — your current band is highlighted in blue.

Worked Example

Example: 78% on University 4.00 scale

Use this sample to sanity-check your inputs and understand what the final result represents.

  • 1Scale: University 4.00
  • 2Percentage: 78
  • 378 falls in the range 75–79% → Grade: A

Final Result

GPA: 3.75 / 4.00 · Class: First Class

Methodology

How Grade Conversion Works

This section explains the calculation logic, assumptions, and source material used to make the result more trustworthy and easier to verify.

Bangladesh grading is table-based, not formula-based — the system finds the band where your percentage falls and assigns the fixed GPA for that band. SSC/HSC 5.00 scale has 7 bands (BISE gazette): A+ = 5.00 (80–100%), A = 4.00 (70–79%), A- = 3.50 (60–69%), B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00. University 4.00 scale has 10 bands (UGC framework): A+ = 4.00 (80–100%) down to D = 2.00 (40–44%), F = 0.00 (below 40%). First Class at most public universities requires CGPA ≥ 3.50.

Helpful tips

  • 1SSC and HSC use the 5.00 scale set by BISE — a completely different system from the university 4.00 scale. Never compare the two GPA numbers directly.
  • 2Most public universities define First Class as CGPA 3.50 or above (equivalent to A- or better on the 4.00 scale).
  • 3Borderline percentages (e.g. 79.9%) may round differently depending on whether your institution uses truncation or rounding — confirm with your result sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SSC/HSC GPA scale in Bangladesh?+

Bangladesh SSC and HSC exams use a 5.00 GPA scale set by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE). The bands are: A+ (80–100%) = 5.00, A (70–79%) = 4.00, A- (60–69%) = 3.50, B (50–59%) = 3.00, C (40–49%) = 2.00, D (33–39%) = 1.00, F (below 33%) = 0.00. A student must pass all subjects to receive a GPA.

What is the university GPA scale in Bangladesh and do all universities use the same table?+

Most public universities follow the UGC 4.00 framework: A+ (80–100%) = 4.00, A (75–79%) = 3.75, A- (70–74%) = 3.50, B+ (65–69%) = 3.25, B (60–64%) = 3.00, B- (55–59%) = 2.75, C+ (50–54%) = 2.50, C (45–49%) = 2.25, D (40–44%) = 2.00, F (below 40%) = 0.00. However, private universities (BRAC, NSU, IUB, AIUB) may set slightly different cutoffs — always check your institution's official academic calendar.

What is the difference between the SSC/HSC 5.00 scale and the University 4.00 scale?+

The SSC/HSC 5.00 scale has 7 broader bands (e.g. A covers 70–79%). The University 4.00 scale has 10 narrower bands (e.g. A is only 75–79%, A- is 70–74%). A student who scored A+ in SSC would also score A+ at university — but the GPA numbers (5.00 vs 4.00) are not directly comparable. Never convert one to the other; they represent different assessment systems.

How do I convert my GPA to a percentage for foreign university applications?+

There is no universally accepted formula. A common approximation used by WES (World Education Services) for Bangladesh is: Percentage ≈ CGPA × 25 (on the 4.00 scale). A 3.50 GPA ≈ 87.5%. However, WES and most foreign universities prefer to receive and evaluate your official transcript directly. Do not use a simple formula for official applications — request a certified transcript evaluation from WES or a recognised credential evaluator.
